Jaguar’s new pure electric I-Pace has been voted Car of the Year by a panel of motoring experts, who are tasked with driving the latest models all year round.
Some 12 cars were up for the 2019 UK Car of the Year award across a range of categories, with the zero-emissions SUV getting the nod over other esteemed British cars, including the £250,000 Rolls-Royce Cullinan and £160,000 Bentley Continental GT.
It also beat other celebrated new cars further, including Alpine’s A110 sports car, the Volvo XC40 SUV and Suzuki’s bargain Jimny 4X4

Other notable mentions went to the Alpine A110, voted the best performance car, and the Suzuki Jimny, which won best 4×4
Judges revealed that the I-Pace only just took the prize by the skin of its charging cable (or two casting votes), pipping contenders including Alpine’s A110 sports car, the Volvo XC40 SUV and Suzuki’s cheery Jimny 4X4.
Other contenders included the Volkswagen Polo (Best Supermini), Skoda Karoq (Best Family car), Rolls-Royce Cullinan (Best luxury car), Volvo V60 (Best Estate), Peugeot Rifter (Best MPV), Bentley Continental GT (Best Coupe), Mazda MX-5 (Best Convertible) and Ford Fiesta ST (Best Hot Hatch).
